Touraine of Eastern European origin but an adopted “islander”, Nicolas has long had the heart that beats for the colorful islands of the world: Guadeloupe, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Reunion Island, Cuba… Towards these distant paradises of which he feels so close, he flies away regularly for a few weeks or a whole season and lets himself be captivated by the richness of colors, smells and flavors. It was during these escapades that he discovered naive and primitive art through the work of local artists with a growing aura. The simple, intuitive aesthetic of these pictorial genres gives him a lively emotion. Over time, he refined his gaze, formed relationships, and built up a beautiful collection. Declaring customs for several years, Nicolas has extensive knowledge of importation. From the 4 corners of the world, he will then bring in pieces spotted on the web among a very specific address book. In his “Tropical Creations” gallery, Nicolas's “favorites” inhabit the space of their distant soul. Paintings and sculptures come together, sometimes naïve, sometimes primitive, sometimes giving way to more abstract works, each carrying within itself the story of a meeting. From islands elsewhere or from Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil, Belize, Venezuela or France, the artists exhibited all have in common the high quality of their work. Some of international renown are also exhibited in galleries in Pittsburgh, New York, Miami, or Port-au-Prince and now in Toulon!
