Biography
Marc Laffolay lives and works in Picardy (France). His works are present in numerous collections (Europe, South Africa, Canada, USA, Middle East...)
“When I'm working, I often feel like I'm writing a poem. A poem that would never end.
It seems to me that we miss this poetic vision terribly today. »
Out of time, deliberately escaping trends, Marc Laffolay's work is influenced by what touches life, the timeless.
Whether it is painting, sculpture or even writing, the gesture is direct, both meditative and impulsive.
Banishing any intervention of the mind, it favors sincerity, spontaneity, without complacency for trends and fashions.
“Joining myself in this or that movement, trying to please, surfing the trends of the moment seems to me futile and uninteresting, sterile and dishonest. I must accept this choice. Its not always easy "
“I see the evolution of my artistic practice more as a path, a journey, a sensitive adventure. Our era of omnipresent zapping would push us to seek novelty for novelty's sake. A sort of headlong flight, a fear of heights, perhaps which translates into a strong pressure which I try to ignore. I don't want to participate in this fair.
The evolution of my work is never anything other than a series of new steps along the way. A walk, a gait. A search too. »
“I would like my work to resonate with what is authentic and original within us. Far from the noise. »
“Because life is movement, I need, in continuity, to see my work progress, to search, to try, to leave new traces on the walls. Each new step is like crossing a ford. It's not always comfortable. But the repetition scares me and dries me up. »
Indeed, all of his work integrates painting, sculpture, drawing and writing.
