ARTISTIC APPROACH

When I paint, it is first of all the search for a state; feeling of freedom and self-forgetfulness, which motivates me. It is also the desire to create a universe that pleases me visually: an abundant, cheerful and slightly naive world, far from a certain morbid pessimism that I perceive around me in culture, the media, art and which affects me. This universe is built around the theme of the garden.
The process is carried out directly on the canvas, most of the time, with the painting placed flat on the ground. I proceed in constant oscillation between chance and choices. I begin with a key element that has previously intrigued me (a bird, a flower), and the painting is constructed by layers of caused accidents and controlled elements, mixing drawings, collage, realistically painted elements, puddles of polymer, large gestures with large brushes, overlaps, transparency, small patterns, in a composition where emptiness rubs shoulders with fullness, where I want to keep traces of each of these layers visible; as a history of the construction of the painting. Showing the bare canvas is something that struck me and seduced me in several contemporary artists, including François Lacasse, from whom I also learned the idea of pouring the paint onto the canvas and controlling it without brushes, in moving the board. The world of children is also omnipresent in my work. Being a primary school teacher, I feel very close to them, very sensitive to their drawings, their imagery. My pictorial world is intended to be tinged with their joy and their naivety, to better make us forget the harshness of the world in which we live.
