Driven by the ambition to become an artist, Scott studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, graduating in June 2000 with a BDes (Hons) in Illustration and Printmaking. Since graduating, he has been a full-time artist, working from his studio in Glasgow. Much of his time is spent traveling around Scotland in search of inspiration, particularly the lakes, valleys and islands of the west coast, which are among his favorite subjects for his vibrant, atmospheric oils.
Since 2004, Scott has shared his expertise by lecturing part-time, and today he teaches one day a week in the Creative Arts Department at West College Scotland. Using vivid colors and vigorous application, he captures the changing light conditions of Scotland's west coast. His use of color is often an emotional response to his subjects, while his values remain representational. His love of the Scottish countryside manifests itself in his work with boundless energy, manipulating color with palette knife and brush.
Scott's recent focus is on transitional skies and the multiple colors involved when light breaks through clouds, a metaphor for optimism and hope. Born in Glasgow in 1978, he attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design from 1996 to 2000. Since then, he has worked as a full-time artist in his Glasgow studio.
He now exhibits his work internationally and enjoys great popularity online, with over 35.5 million subscribers and over 4 million views on his YouTube channel. His print reproductions are produced in the UK, USA, Canada and China, and sold worldwide.
Scott's approach to painting is underpinned by an extraordinary energy and positivity, reflected in the themes of hope and optimism omnipresent in his work.
