Biography
Claude Champy is a French artist, born in 1944.
He graduated from École parisienne des métiers d'art, he initially worked in pottery production before leaving the factory for good, and devoting himself to his own artistic production.
Champy's production is not only about traditional forms of pottery (bowls, pots, vases...) but also great themes, which he addresses quite often: « Boxes», «Cliffs», etc.
Claude Champy exhibited at Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and Musée national de céramique in Sevres (who purchased a lot of his items). Since 1979, he has been regularly exhibiting abroad and in 1988, he received the Grand Prize of the Suntory Museum in Tokyo. He built long lasting ties with Japanese ceramists those day and is today, one of the few French ceramists, who is known worldwide.
