Born in 1939, Stephanie Brody-Lederman is a New York painter, literary artist and sculptor whose mixed media works combine visual imagery with words. [In 1977-1978 his work was included in the major exhibition American Narrative/Story Art--1967-1977 at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, Texas.
In addition to his many private and public exhibitions and acquisitions since the 1980s, his works appear on the covers of The Paris Review and L'Oeil magazines. His grants and awards include the New York Foundation for the Arts, LMCC (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council), Artists Space, Percent for Art, SOS Grant, Hassam and Speicher Award, New York Foundation for the Arts/NEA LINE Grant, the Ariana Foundation for the Arts, …
"I want to show the poetry inherent in ordinary life. I commemorate the simple moments when we feel most alive. An example is being very happy because you are sure your dog or cat is smiling at you.
I use simple images; trees, birds, dogs and cats, and I try to reveal both the graphic and psychological content within. Above all, I never want to lose "the mark of the hand", this very beautiful awkwardness which comes from being present for the first time."
