Irena Skalik
Biography
Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and Krakow, a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers. She deals mainly with painting. Her works are strongly related to the theme of the city. Paintings show buildings, streets, places that have become unique to her due to the "situational nature of the moment". They show a strong fascination with a straight line, solid and space. The dominant color, and sometimes the only one, is gray, symbolizing the apparent simplicity and austerity.
Painting is my journey into the unknown. I am looking for inspiration, which in my eyes will become an image, I call it "the situational nature of the moment". The shape, light, smell, mood, music in headphones, thoughts circulating in the head, all this, and even more interpenetrating in the right proportions, creates the ephemeral of moments that become the starting point for my paintings. Then comes the moment of silence. The large piece of pure white canvas overwhelms with its impeccability. It smothers the rush, forces reflection until the first brush stroke, then a journey into the unknown begins. Work on myself, on my emotions, struggle with thoughts, with the workshop. A large load of emotional experiences is poured onto the canvas. For me, the creative process is like a road, sometimes straight, sometimes winding with numerous crossroads, but like most roads, each of them has a goal, a chosen direction in which it is headed.
