Maria Pia Barberi, a self-taught artist, was born in Lima, Peru. Always connected to art and culture, she lived in Europe for many years, where her deep interest in art and painting grew. In her early works, the chiaroscuro technique stands out, influenced by Italian Renaissance masters, and the use of gold leaf, reflecting the impact of pre-Columbian cultures discovered upon her return to Peru. A recurring theme in her art is the impermanence of time, represented through textures mimicking aged wood. She has exhibited in various cities, including NY, Rome, Lima, Miami, Rhode Island, and Qatar, and participated in the pre-biennial of Venice and the Florence Biennale. Her paintings are part of private collections in different countries.
