Biography
Paul Guiramand enrolled at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts. He will be one of the pupils of the painter Maurice Brianchon (1899-1979). Besides that of his teacher, the influence of Picasso and Matisse led him to a figurative painting freed from the constraints of realism.
At the end of the 1940s, Guiramand traveled to Spain and Italy where he discovered the works of Masaccio and Piero della Francesca, which will be a source of inspiration for him. In 1952, he obtained the Prix de Rome and resided at Villa Medicis from 1953 to 1956.
In addition to painting, Paul Guiramand was interested in all techniques, especially engraving and lithography in the studio of master printer Fernand Mourlot (1895-1988) in which Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Braque also worked. The theatrical decoration also interested him. In 1960, he illustrated the works of Apollinaire and Hemingway. He also produces mosaics, particularly at the University of Grenoble.
From 1953, Guiramand began to exhibit his works. Many exhibitions will welcome him, until the years 2000, in Europe, the United States, Mexico and several times in Japan.
