In 1986, with an architecture degree in hand, Philippe Varillon flew to Los Angeles to work in Franck Gehry's publishing agency, then moved to Minneapolis.
He then left the United States for Italy, where he studied and taught painting and spent 15 years traveling between Florence and Venice.
In the early 2000s, he returned to France, and settled in the Lyon region, a family stronghold, to devote himself definitively to painting.
He undertakes an important work around the illustration of the work of Italo Calvino.
Then, little by little moves away from the figurative mode to move towards a more abstract universe.
It expresses trajectories which then intersect randomly, unfolding without interruption.
The canvases are made up of a contrast between a homogeneous background of the same color and a line that can take on different tones.
The reflection on the painting ends with a title like a quotation, always after its elaboration.
