Biography
Marie Labat is a French visual artist born in 1983. She lives and works in Lys in the Pyrénées Atlantiques.
Describing herself as a rural artist, Marie Labat places particular importance on craftsmanship as well as the relationship between man and nature. Working the land is at the origin of an entire civilization, its culture and its evolution. Studying the way humans exploit nature and derive their livelihood from it allows us to learn a lot about the current state of a society, its values and its objectives.
Marie Labat is initially interested in a landscape, that is to say a wild space modified by man in a logic of appropriation. From this geographical delimitation, the artist studies the myths, codes and legends of the area, carrying out in-depth plastic work which allows him to create a new landscape, resulting from his own apprehension of the already existing one.
Marie Labat regularly exhibits her work in France.
