Painting is nothing other than the conquest of freedom.
Jean-Michel Atlan was a prominent French painter associated with the Art Informel movement of the mid-20th century.
Born on January 23, 1913, in Constantine, Algeria, Atlan moved to Paris in 1930 where he studied philosophy at the Sorbonne but soon discovered his passion for art. Atlan developed a unique style characterized by abstract forms, vibrant colors, and gestural brushwork. He embraced spontaneity and experimentation, often incorporating unconventional materials into his artworks.
Atlan's compositions blended elements of calligraphy, symbolism, and the subconscious, resulting in visually dynamic and emotionally charged pieces. His significant contributions to the European avant-garde art scene earned him international recognition and exhibitions worldwide.
Atlan passed away on February 11, 1960, leaving behind a rich body of work that continues to inspire and captivate audiences today.
