Born in 1944 in Port-au-Prince, Claude Dambreville married the daughter of Pétion Savain, painter of the first generation. After having done high school and then radio, he frequents artists and enrolls in the art center. It was at the age of 34 that he took up painting seriously. He also writes a lot, and in 1983 received the Deschamps prize for "A taste of gall".
He lived in the USA, without forgetting his homeland. He painted mostly women, long white or blue silhouettes selling their products at the market. Turbans, hats and baskets enhance the pastel tones of their outfits. Vertical and draped lines, the architecture is solid and calm.
Dambreville, whose painting is too learned ...
To be classified among the naive, has long achieved international notoriety. Although Haitian by birth, heart, sensitivity, he exhibits everywhere and is appreciated by collectors.
