Biography
Yue Minjun (born 1962) is a Chinese contemporary artist known for his distinctive style characterized by smiling self-portraits. Born in Daqing, Heilongjiang, China, Minjun studied oil painting at Hebei Normal University and later joined an art community in the 1990s. His works often depict himself and others wearing exaggerated grins, reflecting themes of individuality, irony, and social commentary.
Minjun's paintings became internationally recognized for their bold colors and humorous depiction of the human condition. His art has been exhibited in major galleries and museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing.
