A young French photographer based in Nantes, Laurent Castellani has the art of taming natural light to sublimate the raw beauty of his models. Known for his minimalist and emotional shots, the photographer regularly collaborates with major brands in the luxury sector and has just been approached by Netflix. He has exhibited his work at "Paris Photo Off" in Paris, among others.
As far back as he can remember, Laurent has always been captivated by the image. When his mother buys Robert Doisneau's "Le Baiser", the little boy dreams of himself instead of the photographer. Surrounded by the almost unreal beauty of the cliché, Laurent has only one idea: to make it his profession.
He started his career as a digital designer in the luxury industry. In parallel to his free time, he explores his creativity by shooting films with his small reflex. The wind that caresses the dunes, the sand of Pornic, the undulation of the ocean... Laurent captures everything that seems beautiful to him. Through a grain, colours, a vibration, he works each plane as an emotion. Spotted by Bose, he signs one of their commercials.
And then everything accelerates. Movies, he goes to photography. His Mulholland series marks a turning point in his career. Bewitching, dreamlike, almost frightening clichés in which French makes its models evolve in the darkness of urban settings. A series close to David Lynch's visual writing that the photographer willingly cites as a reference.
Gradually, his style was refined. The artist develops his attraction for minimalism. He tamed natural light to sublimate the raw beauty of his models. Clean shots, full of softness and emotion that leave only the essential to the eye. His style, immediately recognizable, seduces many luxury brands with whom he regularly collaborates. Noticed by Netflix on social networks, the photographer is working with the online video giant on an upcoming collaboration.
