Gbane Bacary
Biography
Born in 1990 in Alépé, Côte d'Ivoire, Gbane Bacary is an interior architect and designer with a passion for painting who lives and works in Abidjan.
After completing his master's degree at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts d'Abidjan in 2016, and training in Design at the Centre Technique des arts appliqués in Bingerville, Gbane Bacary completed internships with various architectural firms in Côte d'Ivoire; the firm ACA architecture (SOSSAH) FRANCIS) from 2014 to 2016 The firm KOFFI & DIABATÉ in 2013. In 2013, GBANE won the Abidjan Jeune Talent competition at the 1st ARCHIBAT architecture and building fair.
He was the 2017 winner in the Architecture and Design category at the Africa Design Awards, a competition initiated in Morocco by designer Hicham Lahlou. Inspired by renowned designers such as Ousmane MBaye and Jean Servais Somian, Gbane Bacary is proud of his cultural identity.
For Gbane Bacary (Abidjan), anything he found around him could be incorporated into his paintings. He took the signs and drawings he found in town and reorganised them to create something new in his paintings.
His interest in art, cultivated from an early age, enabled him to familiarise himself with different artistic styles and movements, which he then recuperated and mixed to renew the language of art.
By experimenting with new artistic techniques and mixing different styles and movements, he has been able to adapt the gestural freedom of language to his work.
