Jean-Marc Amigues is a French artist born in 1965 in Toulouse. Passionate about painting and drawing since his childhood, he however opted for medical studies and specialized in rheumatology. His passion for drawing translated into hyper-realistic reproductions of study models. Today, he lives and works in the region of Haute Garonne.
Jean-Marc Amigues is a major admirer of the painter, Richter and draws inspiration from him.
Jean-Marc Amigues questions the borders between photography and drawing. According to him, both are a crystallization of reality, a way to freeze a precise moment on a specific medium. He works with the photos he took, and adds effects like blurriness or movement. There is no notion of age. Reality becomes abstract. In an opposite manner, the one of the hyper-realistic period, Jean-Marc Amigues twists a real image with the aim to obtain an abstract creation. The spectator is free to analyze the shady areas and blurriness of the photos. He is asked to fill in the "gaps" with his own conception of reality.
Jean-Marc Amigues regularly exhibits abroad, for example New York, Belgium...
