Biography

Dávid Máriássy (1986) was born in Košice, Slovakia. He has been working with wood since his early childhood, which gives him more than 30 years of experience in the craft. His artistic activities span a wide spectrum, including both exterior and interior work. He is devoted to both concrete and abstract forms, with his most popular being the exploration of the intersection between reality and abstraction.

Dávid does not limit himself to one specific area of artistic expression or technique, rather he specializes in diversity, improvisation and constantly discovering new methods and approaches to his work. For the last ten years, he has been working primarily on large projects in the exteriors of public spaces, especially in the Košice region.

For almost 15 years, Dávid has also been perfecting his skills in marquetry and marquetry – detailed pictures from wood veneer. The presented works come from his personal collection and demonstrate the contrast between typical marquetry and contemporary art. His technique is specific: he eschews standard procedures such as using a jigsaw or carving individual pieces of veneer, instead carving the wood layer by layer with a scalpel.

This series of works is called "1000 hours," which represents the considerable amount of time that Dávid devoted to the production of the presented pieces. These works are the result of his creative expression and exploration of the contrast between the natural colors of wood and unlimited composition with respect to specific artistic genres.
