Biography

Shinya Tanoue graduated from Doshisha University in Kyoto and completed his studies at Kyoto Saga University of the Arts in 2003. Since then, Shinya has gained great recognition for his work and received major awards such as the Concours International Ceramics MINO.

Shinya Tanoue uses the technique of coils to shape his works and he notches the surface to give relief to his creations. Shinya associates his works with shells; a protective cocoon that preserves life. The symbolic meaning of Nature is also represented by the incorporation of cobalt blue, a reflection of the ocean, source of life.
