Biography

Born in 1929 in Chamalières, France

Student of Pierre Francastel, the Atelier Fernand Léger, the Ateliers de Montparnasse and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts.

1963 – 1967: Lecturer in the Landscape Section of the Versailles School of Horticulture

1967: Professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, appointed by the Minister of Culture André Malraux

1968: Teaches at the Paris-la-Villette School of Architecture where from 1989 to 1998 he directed the DEA “Garden, Landscape, Territory” (co-accredited with the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences – EHESS) and the laboratory

1969: at the request of Mr. Sirinelli, Director of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education, created with Bernard Teyssèdre the Unit of Studies and Research in Plastic Arts and Art Sciences at the University of Paris I where he was professor and Deputy Director until 1973.

1976: Co-founder of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles. Professor, created and directed the Atelier Charles Rivière Dufresny until 1986.

1980 – 1986: Professor and Director of Studies of DEA 108 at the University of Paris Dauphine which qualified him for research

2002 – 2003: Visiting professor at the University of Cambridge

2002 – 2006: Successively taught at the Universities of Bologna, Venice and at the Leibniz University of Hanover

1990 – 2008: Member of the Monitoring Committee of the 1% Landscape and Development of the Ministry of Equipment

2001 – 2008: Member of the National Landscape Council of the Ministry of Ecology
