David Carson
Biography
David Carson is an American graphic designer and designer born in 1955.
Known for his typographic aesthetic, David Carson breaks certain codes of typography by playing with typefaces and creating a dialogue between texts and images, particularly for magazine layouts, such as for the design of the Ray Gun magazine in early 90s .
A graduate in sociology, David Carson discovered graphic design during a course at the University of Arizona. He became a teacher from 1982 to 1987 at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego. David Ray Carson is also a surf fan and professional surfer. In 1984, he became the artistic director of Transworld Skateboarding and Snowboarding magazine. He brought a unique touch to the magazine by developing what would define its style in the future, dirty, distorted or damaged fonts, and experimental photography techniques.
David Carson is the author of various books (The end of print) and has won over 200 awards.
