Benjamín Torcal
Biography
Barcelona, 1959
Fine Arts (University of Barcelona).
The pictorial expression is for Benjamin Torcal a vital necessity, a requirement of existence. Each of his works becomes a confrontation in which the artist launches references filtered by their life attitude to the viewer. The references are rooted in the concepts of classical mythology.
His wild strokes show an orderly chaotic and eclectic character where we appreciate the expressionistic brushwork and the use of color as a reminiscence of the Renaissance.
This symbolic painting refers to the most diverse sources like mythology, classical culture, materialism or divine proportion through an anthropological vision that delivers the essential storyline of the painting.
His work tries to express moods through a relationship of composition and chromatic forces, that result in duality. Torcal resorts to human figures scattered in the pictorial space between ranges of colors that bring us closer to nature. Earth and man appear as the same concept, both pictorial and intellectual.
