Xavier Spatafora

Born in Nouméa, he grew up in the south of France where he still lives today. This distant elsewhere nourishes his childhood imagination and builds his singularity. Over time, this geographical notion, in the philosophical sense, of space and territory becomes a strong element of his artistic approach: occupying a space, offering himself and offering a new territory. For him, a work of art is to be understood as a sort of virtual Terra Incognita. It is not its value that makes it its strength, but its potential for poetic expansion. The stronger a work, the greater the imaginary space it occupies.
