“Some of Patrick Messina's photographs are based on the intuition that the blurring effects he obtains will be felt as an escape out of time. No doubt also Patrick sensed that something of the cinema passed through his photos, if it is true that cinema is what is played out between the mirror and the window, movement and fixity, reason and madness..." (André S.Labarthe).
Patrick Messina was born in 1967 in Paris. He made his first portraits for Liberation, Le Monde, WallPaper and Les Inrockuptibles. Patrick Messina has imposed his own semantics in the various fields of the image. All the references that accompany our over-mediatized daily life are as though put under the magnifying glass, magnified and called into question all at the same time.
His works on urban landscapes and wilder territories establish Patrick Messina as an artist who excels in bearing witness to an intimate experience of spaces and in giving a reading of them that renews knowledge of them.
He is one of the four founders of the France(s) Territoire Liquide mission, a collective research on French territory started in 2011.
His work is present in public (BNF-FRAC Bretagne) and private (Hermès, Société Générale) collections.
