Presentation
Fifteen years ago, Ezequiel Solano, departed from the canonical figurative art approaches to explore Andean aesthetics through an abstract lens. Beyond a mere re- statement of the Pre-Columbian forms that characterize Andean ancestralism, what Solano offers in his work is a search for the roots of Andean aesthetics, taking as a starting point the lines and knots of intense colors in the grayish and dark backgrounds; reminiscent of the quilting traditions of the high Andes. In his later works, this approach takes a new turn and is fused with suprarealism; the Andean themes resonate in his mind to create a new aesthetic dimension, that challenges our preconceptions of beauty.
