Chuu Wai Nyein was born in Shan State, Myanmar and studied art at the National University of Arts and Culture in Mandalay. She is one of the few female artists in Myanmar.
Chuu Wai Nyein’s art focuses on female identities and female empowerment in a conservative culture.
During the military coup in Myanmar Chuu Wai Nyein was active in opposition and she was on the barricades, protesting for a return to democracy. She founded the WRITE FOR RIGHT movement which drew young artists together to create posters and other art to oppose the coup. Chuu Wai Nyein is now in exile.
