Biography

French of Chinese origin, Quentin Liu arrived for the first time in France at the age of 24, in 2002. He settled in Yvelines. For him, born in a totalitarian country, the artist is above all a whistleblower. Witness to the radical change in Chinese contemporary art, he was marked by the hostility of his country's government towards artists and by the brainwashing campaigns carried out by the main media. He thus became aware of the importance of the role of the artist in a context where democracy and freedom of expression are seriously called into question.
Politics, globalization and consumerism are the favorite themes that irrigate his painting. Often referring to Manet, Delacroix and Neo Rauch, he gives his compositions an almost cinematographic character. In front of his paintings, the viewer perceives multiple tensions in the scenes depicted there: interrogations, official inaugurations, health checks... The details, often symbolic, draw a strong narrative which questions the viewer. The artist shares his observations with us, raises questions, but leaves us the task of drawing conclusions and proposing potential solutions.
