The key reason Martin does art is because he finds the mainstream contemporary art INCREDIBLY dull and meaningless.
First of all there's the challenge of what the art establishment has decided is the only art they'll endorse - call it contemporary or post-modern or any of a set of other ideas. What they've forgotten is that art must be visually interesting above all else - far beyond the theoretical or philosophical base behind it. Instead, contemporary art starts with the attempt to communicate something specific. And the result is art that is incredibly dull visually; spineless with no character nor a single trace of individuality.
Secondly, art schools are no longer skill based but philosophy based. Great art isn't created by getting an idea then just throwing things together that represent it.
Martin’s art cannot be pigeon-holed into any specific category. That’s what makes it interesting. It’s unique as it showcases captivating emotions.
Martin remained faithful to the original style of his art over the past decades. Whilst he mastered his personal technique the subjects remain the same: mystery, drama, humour, symbolism and timeless experiences of living, working and loving. His engaging canvases with layers of paint cannot be passed by unnoticed. Each presents a story and it's down to you to interpret it through your own experiences.
