Biography
Danny Giesbers is a Dutch, autodidact abstract painter whose work originates in a desire to evoke serenity and balance in a changing world. Giesbers has developed a unique painting method influenced by the worn and weathered textures seen on the squeegee paintings.
Giesbers employs minimal, gestural movements across his surfaces, layering multiple colors and mediums to create seemingly complex compositions built from a series of simple movements. Variations between his series relate to specific aspects of his conceptual approach.
The Minimal Complexity series employs minimal movements and calming colors to create compositions that will induce a state of peace in the mind of the viewer. For his Shifts series, His most recent body of work, he mobilizes phosphorescent paints to create luminescent fields of color that glow in the dark, causing a literal shift in perspective as conditions change.
Rather than being objects of passive viewing, the Shift paintings take an active role to make a statement about transformation, and the interrelationships between forces and elements in the physical world. Giesbers lives and works in The Hague.
