“My story with painting began in 1991 with the Parisian crew DSE (Da Subway Explozed) founded in 1989 by Dystur & Pseye.
Introduced to the art of vandalism by my lifelong friend Dystur, this passion invaded me and pushed me to graffiti most of the Paris metro lines... but also the metros of Marseille, Lille, Brussels, Amsterdam...
At the beginning of the 2000s, I joined the famous reference group in the Parisian graffiti scene BSD as well as the largest and most prestigious crew in the world 156 created in the 80s in New York by Jonone.
Today my paintings are impregnated by this experience."
Kofoh expands his graphic style through several mediums and supports: screen prints on paper, t-shirts, frescoes, tattoos... a multifaceted artist, his work takes shape in the intermingling of characters and sentences.
His style is similar to the “ignorant style", a revolutionary movement in graffiti which consists of creating sentences and drawings with simple, thick lines, without necessarily coloring. Kofoh focuses on simplicity and spontaneity in his work, letting himself be guided by his inspirations and producing instinctive works.
One of the characteristics of his work is the use of sentences which may or may not accompany the drawings he makes. The sentences he writes resemble liberating slogans: “love has become a consumer product", “too old to die young", “I love you like killing", “I love the life too much that I hate". He strives to play with words and their meaning, giving his sentences an introspective and impactful dimension for those who read them.
