Biography

Artist Statement:

ARTIST STATEMENT
Pulp art from the 1930s and 1940s represented the best of bold, heart-pumping exagerrated colors, type and over-the-top graphics to illustrate adventure and fantasy stories.
My work pays hommage to these styles by using true multi-media art techniques combined with edgy texture and color that creates a richer and more vibrant experience.
Employing hand-made paper with a dimensional format,
and shadowing created by the raised artwork makes the
illustrations come to life, engaging the viewer. And the large canvas format grabs one by the lapels to feel part of the action.

Education:

Marlowe Grew up in Florida to a mother with extraordinary artistic skills, and was greatly influenced by the vivid colors and textures of her Floridian art, continually defining his skills thru high school graphics programs.
While attending Ohio University, he studied graphic design and illustration with a talented group of professors who urged him to pursue commercial illustration in New York City, to where he soon moved. His achievements included commissioned illustrations for The New York Times, Sports Illustrated,
and Newsweek. Marlowe then began illustrating childrens books and penned a Parents Choice award winner that was featured on the Today Show.
Marlowe has illustrated over 100 magazines and book jackets, winning numerous illustration awards over the last 20 years.
Currently he is a resident of Wilmington, NC

Awards & Distinctions:

Awarded numerous graphic design honors over the last 40 years with Silver Medals from the NY Art Directors Club, Graphis Magazine and Communication Arts magazine

Exhibitions:

Professional/Teaching Experience:

Artistic Influences:

Milton Glaser was a huge influence on my work. His bold posterized color schemes and unusal points of view shaped many of my art pieces.
