Biography
Ben Slama is a Tunisian painter who was born in Tunis in 1974. Painting has been an integral part of his daily life since the age of 17. In 2002, he was awarded a fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He was granted residence in Lebanon in 2003.
Ben Slama's paintings are intended to be anonymous: faces are carefully concealed, brilliantly and delicately hidden. Stories and legends are added to these elusive faces. The artist is inspired by storytelling. From La Fontaine to the Brothers Grimm and Japanese mangas too, nothing is left out by this curious, dynamic artist.
In 2005, Ben Slama began to exhibit his work in the Kanvas Art Gallery. His work is also featured in the public collection of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Tunisia. His works are also the prized possessions of private collectors.
