Patrick Chappert-Gaujal is a French artist born in 1959 in Bedarieux, Herault. He grew up in an artistic environment, and was introduced to art by his father, an amateur painter. When he was only 15, he joined the Superior School of Fine Arts of Perpignan. In 1985, he lived in Sweden for 5 years. An eternal vagabond, he wanders through South Africa, Asia, Africa with the Dakar Biennale, the United States, Europe, China..... He currently lives in La Francqui, a small resort on the shores of the Mediterranean.
He explores the work of the material, painting, crafts and notions such as adventure, collections, reycling...... he draws his inspiration from the elements he finds in the sea: floating wood, beach shoes, plastic, cardboards.....Searching for lost traces, he exerces a rigorous practice of archeology and reinvented ethnology. A real alchemist, he transforms the ordinary into a work of art. The layout is complex, the technique is spectacular and the alchemy is part of it.
He exhibits his work recurrently in some of the most prestigious places since 1975: in fairs (International Art Fair Elysée, Stockolm Art Fair) in galleries (Paris, Washington, Copehaguen), in castles, in international exhibitions: Sweden, China, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Senegal, the United States..... he did a piece for the Red Bricks Arts Museum in Beijing.
