Rabe
Biography
Rabe, by his real first name Damien, is a 36-year-old graffiti artist. He grew up in Ivry sur Seine where the graffiti scene quickly developed, allowing him to sharpen his mind of observation and awakening to street art. He first of all appreciated the work he was able to bring to the letter and to all the movements that we could give to our precious alphabet.
Then he turned to light painting for the energy that we could give to an image. Studies followed in the north of France and more precisely in Calais. From there the artist lets go, he abandons markers, pencils and sketchbook to let the movement of his arm speak on a completely different support: "the wall". A letting go of colors and lines is felt in his artistic work.
The meeting with many graffiti artists and many graffiti scenes allowed him to develop his art. It was only by leaving to live in the south of France that this young artist focused on stencil work and nothing like road signs to be able to convey his emotions. Through this medium, ideas continue to grow in the mind of this young artist.
He works on the geometric regularity offered by the road sign as well as the given message, in order to give it dynamics and a different message. He thus reinvents the highway code and presents it to you with all the influences he may have had during his youth. We will obviously find his street art culture there, but also his influences for video games, super heroes and everything that appealed to pop culture for this young artist of the 80s.
