Painting is no longer a representation of a visible world, but the invention of forms inspired by inner life and emotion.
Biography
Gustave Singier was born in Belgium in 1909 and died in 1984.
Gustave Singier creates colourful paintings, often in warm tones; his universe is poetic, cosy, one can even discover there musical rhythms.
He belongs to the Nouvelle École from Paris, is a professor at the académie Rançon and is part of the "non-figurative" group of artists.
This painting suggests a sensitive and concrete reality, but the relationship between painting and this reality goes beyond the mere description contained in the artwork. Non-figuration is different from surrealism in that the reality from the canvas is not generated by the painter's imagination. It is also different from abstraction, as abstraction doesn't refer to any representation or immediate reality. Finally, it is also different from lyrical abstraction that expresses individual emotions in a direct way, and from gestural painting in which the only thing that matters is the gesture of the painter.
