Born in California in 1944, photographer, poet and activist Joey Tranchina discovered his vocation at the age of 14 when he sold his first photo.
He became known in the United States for his black and white photographs depicting the Los Angeles of the 1960s. Many, if not most, American writers of his generation have also passed before his lens.
His career is studded with numerous awards, including the Palm prings Photo Festival Grand Prize, won in 2018. Coming to France for an early retirement in the 2000s, the beauty of the canals of Sète eventually made him dive back into his passion, which he has been practicing again for the past ten years. He still practices an instinctive and unpretentious photography.
