Presentation
Marie-Thérèse Vacossin was born in Paris in 1929. She lives and works in Switzerland
Marie-Thérèse Vacossin started her artistic formation in her adolescence. She pursued an academic education until 1956 based on the mastery of reproducing the original designs as well as working with live models.
From 1951 until 1955, she took some courses with Robert Lapoujade who incited her to give up the idea of representation and appreciate the beauty all around her instead, perceiving the world as full of forms, rhythms and colors.
During twenty years, the work of Marie-Thérèse Vacossin remains eclectic. She reflects the trend of lyrical abstraction of the 50s, influenced by Viera da Silva, Nicolas de Stael, Antoni Tàpies and certain trends reflecting the new consumer society of the 60s with a return to figuration.
Under the influence of Jean Gorin and after the discovery of Ad Reinhardt, Maria Theresa Vacossin discovered her path in 1973. She ventures herself into a path of geometric abstraction, completely centered on color perception problems. The work of Marie-Thérèse Vacossin was from then on very close to the Op art style.
