He received numerous prizes for his practice, among which the Henri Ûriot Prize of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in 1985, 1986, 1987 and the Buning Brongers Painting Prize in 1988.
The emotional role played by his experiences and his life is predominant in Peter Keizer's he painting of. He transposes the pictorial tradition to the every day world and things. Moreover the object is the main element in his painting, more than the meaning of the composition. He presents it in the most rudimentary way, that can even seem archaic to our eyes. Even more, Peter Keizer reinforces this aspect through a simple painting, with simplified shapes, with wide color ranges and a special attention to the material.
He completed paintings answering to several commissions: a painting series for the play 'Brainshadows', commissioned by Bellevue Theatre Amsterdam, a painting for the Rehabilitation Centre De Hoogstraat Utrecht, commissioned by Bank Paris Bas, the 'Dredging' painting (5.40 x 3.30 m) commissioned by Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, purchased by Royal Volker Stevin, the painting 'Homage to Grandpa Grape' (2.05 x 7.75 m) a polyptych in honour of Gerrit Keizer, goalkeeper of Ajax 1 from1927 until 1946, commissioned by Ajax, Amsterdam Arena.
