Vincent Tavernier
Biography
Vincent Tavernier was trained at the Beaux-Arts of Versailles then at the Toulon engraving workshop Encre d'art. He is now based in Marseille where he works in his workshop in the Cours Julien district.
Very influenced by the painter and engraver Emil Nolde and the Die Brücke movement, he also has a foot in the world of youth illustration and his creations can sometimes also be linked to Art Brut and Naive Art.
His work is expressive, expressionist, poetic and sometimes melancholic. Etching (lino and wood) is his main creative medium, it is for him a true mode of expression in its own right, an "autonomous language". In Vincent's work we cannot detach the artist from his gouges, it is a whole. He also regularly practices painting, particularly in sketchbooks where he lets his taste for bright colors and lithography explode.
