Francisco HIDALGO (1929-2009) was born in Spain. He belongs to the Post War Ecole de Paris as a photographer and Lise Cormery writes his biography in her book "The Art of Post-War Ecole de Paris". He studies in Beaux-Arts, Madrid, Barcelone and Paris. He starts when he is 14 years old as a cartoonist, his cartoons are published in Barcelona, Spain. He settles in France in 1952, and in Paris in 1954.
During his first years in France, he keeps working as a cartoonist, creates his own cartoons and works for famous French magazines, Cœurs vaillants, Bayard, Spirou, Pilote, Tintin, Chouchou, Bernadette, Lisette. In the 60's he devotes his art to argentic photos and becomes the pioneer of filters, creating his own photographic word, somehow surrealistic. He starts exhibiting his photos in 1963 in international art galleries in Paris, New-York, Londres, Hong-Kong, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Madrid, first for his photos on Paris and later on New York, London, Venice. He is very famous in the 70's 80's. He obtains in 1974, the Gold Obelisk Price at Photokina, Photo World Fair in Cologne, Germany, and in 1976, at Arles Photo Fair, France, he obtains the price of the best photo book. When he dies in Paris in 2009, all French media recognize and applaud his art and life. " Lise Cormery
