Pere Emili Martínez Martín, a Spanish painter, was born in 1964.
A self-taught artist, he cultivated a metaphysical style of painting, by blending figuration with form. By simplifying the application and use of visual materials, the pictorial image is constructed with fine, formal detail. A second component captures the artist’s paintbrush: the human form. The painter showcases a full human figure against a Surrealist, Symbolist and Romantic backdrop. Presented as modern-day heraldry, his pieces allow you to dive into the human psyche, comparing the image of the human body against a dream world. Through this juxtaposition, the subject, shrouded in mystery, is immersed in a gloomy light. Thus, the reflective patterns play with the audience’s senses.
In the words of Francesca Clar, Pere Emili holds up a mirror, reflecting ‘anxiety, faith, light and haze’. A sense of soul seems to flow through each of his brushstrokes, creating a ‘kaleidoscope of images which change depending on our own preconceptions as onlookers.’
The artist’s work is regularly displayed in galleries and presented at solo exhibitions.
