Presentation
Jesús-Rafael Soto is a visual artist ( sculptor and painter ), born June 5, 1923 in Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, and died January 14, 2005 in Paris.
He is famous for his paintings and geometric constructions, playing with optical effects. An emblematic artist of the Op Art /Kinetic Art movements, Jesús-Rafael Soto notably explored the question of the viewer's involvement in the work with his "Pénétrables".
Jesús-Rafael Soto's objects are virtual volumes installed in space that seem to interact with their environments (nature, urban space, etc.). In 2019, the Louis Vuitton Foundation exhibited one of his works from its series of virtual forms, “les Pénétrables", composed of metal rods and nylon threads suspended in the open air; within the permanent collection of the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
