Biography
Uzoma Anyanwu is a painter and photographer. He graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 2012 with a degree in Fine Art. His passion for photography compliments his studio painting practice. His inimitable approach in transforming waste materials (fabric) to art has distinguished him from his contemporaries.
Uzoma is a poet of materials who synthesizes his medium with his figures, telling extraordinary stories with his compositions. His use of the ankara fabric with intricate lines and colours creates an engaging contrast of light and shadow while delicately blurring the lines between figuration and abstraction. He has participated in joint and group exhibitions in Nigeria, South-Africa, Mali, London and China. His solo exhibition in 2016 was a live procession of Chinese terracotta warriors in Lagos, Nigeria after his expedition to China.
