Biography

Funda Özgünaydin studied fine arts at the Crawford College of Art and Design in Ireland and earned her diploma at the UDK, University of the Arts, Berlin. In 2014 she also became a master’s student with Dr. phil. Hito Steyerl.

Her work can be interpreted as a critical examination of current social structures and life courses. For this reason, she focuses on socio-political, ontological and existential questions in the context of the human condition in comparison to modern society and nature. In this sense, she is initially interested in hierarchical relationships and attitudes within social classes. On the other hand, she is looking for answers for a new perception on social progress and this change can be visually represented.

Funda demonstrates her belief in the deep connection between art and life.

The special features of her work can be seen in collage techniques and, as in the conceptual style, in hybrid structures.

Her characters are sometimes depicted as half-human, half-flower or half-human, half-animal, the synthesis of human, animal and plant. By highlighting the ecological importance of humanistic ideas, she criticizes the current state of the world. In her works, the artist searches directly for reality by wandering between paintings, sketches, screen printing and new media.
