Biography

Born in 1922 / 2012 in Saint-Marcellin, in Isère, André Cottavoz studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. After 1945, he participated in several exhibitions and gets Fénéon prices in 1953.

With artists from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he formed what was then called "new figuration of the School of Lyon" or "sanzisme". Fusaro, Truphémus Charrin and join Cottavoz to express trends, namely the search for not only natural light but springing from the same cloth. Also (this is still the essence of Cottavoz's painting), there that will submit the subject, whatever it is, to a notion of thickness obtained by superimposed layers, born of a work mixing, kneading brush, knife in hand.

From 1946, with regularity, the exhibitions followed in France and abroad (Geneva, Milan, Bale, Turin, Amsterdam, Caracas, Tokyo ...). His works have been acquired by numerous museums in France (National Museum of Modern Art, Municipal Museum of the City of Paris ...) and abroad (Luxembourg, Turin, Tokyo and Yamagata, Japan).
