Martine Ehmer Gallery presents the fifth solo show of Belgian artist Christian Silvain.
This two-sided exhibition will present, on the one hand, the artist’s recent works and on the other hand, older works retracing the evolution of Silvain through different periods of his Art.
Although evolving in different styles, the artist continues his quest for childhood which he has been so deprived. In his recent works, he puts aside the animal figures surrounded by characters from comics and toys to make room for the landscapes of his childhood and autobiographical portraits. The presence of objects such as pieces of wood and child- ren’s shoes symbolizes the lost, lonely child in a vast agonizing forest. Sign that his demons are still present. We observe a return to the past where objects, cages, toys, shoes were very present in his works.
Major artist of the Belgian scene whose works are present in no less than 70 Belgian and European museums, Christian Silvain has since the beginning of the year extended its notoriety in Asia.
