We are delighted to announce our next exhibition “Possible Uncertainties”. The artist Françoise Utrel will give us the pleasure of exhibiting her works in Mende for the first time at the Séraphine gallery. On view from June 1 to 15, the exhibition will occupy the entire gallery and will include new and older works, structured around the themes of time, fragility and balance. Françoise Utrel's paintings immerse us in a liminal space between past, present and future. The artist is particularly fascinated by materials belonging to the mineral kingdom. She loves stone in all its shapes and textures. It is a theme which naturally emerged in her pictorial research and which she has been constantly renewing for several years. Under the playful aspect of these stacks or suspensions of rocks, she seeks to create ambiguity and doubt. And, by representing these heavy, solid elements on a wire or out of balance, she defies logic. It makes these elements fragile, unstable and vulnerable. His compositions made with oil paint are simple, but punctuated by the artist's bold brushstrokes. Where does this unique artistic vision come from? The artist is an undeniable admirer of nature, and has been since her first works on landscapes and gardens. Period during which she questions, among other things, the traces left by man in nature. From vegetable, it moves to mineral. This notion of trace can be found in the series of paintings “Illusory Balances” and “Tensions” presented in the exhibition: the stones bear witness to the passage of time and perhaps, metaphorically, to the passage of man on earth. Regarding these works on the mineral, Françoise Utrel says that "only the immobility of her images on the canvas or the power of the imagination allow us to believe that the next moment will not be an inevitable fall and that it remains possible to resist.” We invite you to test the power of imagination. You will be able to meet Françoise Utrel during the opening which will take place on June 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at 3 Place René Estoup – Mende 48000.
