As a symbol of their two-decade long friendship, Jules Dedet Granel (alias L'Atlas) and Tancrède Perrot (alias Tanc) will present a duo exhibition at the Martine Ehmer gallery in Brussels from March 27, 2021 to April 25, 2021. Both from graffiti, the two artists met for the first time in 2001 in Paris and have been inseparable ever since.
The Atlas (born in 1978 in Toulouse) began to tag in the streets of Paris in 1990. He is not attracted by figuration, but by the letter. His style has since evolved beyond graffiti, as it merges optical, abstract, minimalist and geometric artistic movements through his research on writing and calligraphy, in order to produce a typography of his own. Seeking to invent a universal pictorial language, he succeeded in integrating the history of writing into the history of art and in associating optical art with graffiti.
Uniting letter, gesture, abstraction and collage in an art stemming from the borders of the unconscious, Tanc (born in 1979 in Paris) expresses his feelings, his moods and his desires in a clever mix of energy, spontaneity, vibration and rhythm. Like a musician composes his score, he paints in oils on canvas by applying the paint with a tube rather than a brush and hypnotizes us with his signature: an automatic and indecipherable writing.
