In her collections she creates series of imaginary characters from the combination of infinitesimal details of previously produced photographs. Childhood, a leitmotif in her body of work, is here paradoxically represented in its “natural" perfection through the artificial patchwork of body parts, costumes from different cultures and ages. Barbara successfully created silent and iconic characters projected towards the audience, directly questioning the viewer. In these digital collage's gestures become enigmatic: the child's innocence is dramatically placed in contradiction with adult expressions and emotions.
Barbara created the successful series Look at me, Under My Skin, Cry if you want to, Behind the Seen and Back to Nature.

Presentation
Barbara van der Berg – graduated from School of Art and Design in Den Bosch in 2003. After her studies she co-founded Studio BEET, an agency for graphic design and illustration. Barbara evolved into an eclectic artist with a comprehensive practice that encloses painting, digital collage, photography, charcoal, typography and stop-motion production. Exploring a multitude of different media, Van den Berg has a distinctive knowledge of how best to manifest her artistic visions.
The diverse experiments in the language of expression is an underpinning feature throughout her oeuvre. As a child she lived in an almost perpetual state of observation, constantly fixated by human behavior. Her sensitivity to how we relate and interrelate has instilled a uniquely humanistic approach to making art. Van den Berg’s visionary message is revealed upon introspective examination.
Barbara’s work characterizes by a contemporary, pop-playful aesthetic, her art carries a conceptual message that remains sharp in its critique. In her work van den Berg fosters a dialogue amongst ourselves, researching into the measures of connectedness. Her artworks encourage a cathartic exploration of oneself and one’s relation to and with society.
Barbara van den Berg uses cut pieces from old magazines. She approaches the
disposable culture in which trends follow each other quickly. Using existing and residual materials the artist creates layers and emphasizes the complexity of mankind. The series ‘Behind the scenes’ refers to what is behind the visible and, by using Pop and contemporary elements, as well as historical elements van den Berg emphasizes the enduring power of female canons.
