Anna Wode was born in Moscow (Russia) but grew up mainly in Germany. She also lived in Austria and France, from which she acquired nationality. Anna currently lives and works in Luxembourg. She studied economics, first in Russia, then in Germany and France. His artistic project began in 2017 as a kind of art therapy, during a long-term work stoppage. The desire to make sculptures, to work with clay, painting, and other activities such as batik, jewelry, self-taught, came almost suddenly.
"It's hard to explain, one day I felt the almost overwhelming urge to sculpt and I did." Painting will become his main activity.
Anna Wode's painting style can be described as figurative expressionism. The themes are inspired by the beauty of the aquatic world and femininity. The color blue is a nod to Picasso's blue period, which Anna Wode greatly appreciates. She is also fascinated by the work of Toulouse-Lautrec, her works span the period from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century in a more modern style however.
Another source of inspiration is the mosaics by famous Spanish architect Antonio Gaudí. The brush or spatula strokes are harmoniously placed and form a mosaic that reflects the theme imposed by inspiration. Anna Wode's paintings immerse us in the artist's emotions, which mingle with ours. With her artistic proposal of her blue line (blue period), Anna Wode tries to reveal to us the existence of a harmonious world of the ocean and its monochrome spaces. It is interesting that “woda" in Russian means “water", almost similar to its pen name.
Consider some of the artist's paintings:
Duality and contrast
Duality, black and white, evil and good, darkness and light. This dilemma has existed for centuries. They are opposed but very complementary. What is good, what is bad? Importance of recognizing it. Sometimes we take bad for good; good for bad ... It is not easy to name things by their own name.
Omniscience is a very common concept in the Hereafter, but it is sometimes difficult to understand in the material world. Be anytime and anywhere ... Probably comparable to seawater, ubiquitous and encompassing the marine world.
Appearances
Appearances are deceptive, beware of appearances, we have been warned. Sometimes they cause us to play so many roles in life that we miss them. How many times do we act to get someone to see us, reciprocate, save the picture, to ... Stay genuine, be yourself, what should be so natural is a real luxury these days.
Vintage series
Sometimes we like a particular moment or we feel close to it. For my part, it was at the end of the 19th century, at the beginning of the 20th century, the same thing for the artistic movement in painting.
Why? Did I experience this moment in a previous life, an existence that particularly marked me? We don't know, the barriers of forgetting prevent us ... Is it better to know? Probably not, leaving it hidden in the hidden realm
Between two worlds.
Between two worlds, it is the symbol of the passage from the material world to the immaterial world. We lose what we have and we do not know where we will go, it is the unknown that frightens and irresistibly attracts. The white color is blinding, you can't make out what there is in this light. But do we still want to stay in the rubble? No, we want to move forward, evolution is the key to get out.
